Description:

AN EGYPTIAN MOTTLED HARDSTONE AMULET OF A BULL, LATE PERIOD, CIRCA 664-30 B.C.

Carved from dense, mottled hardstone, this amulet depicts a recumbent bull rendered in a compact, abstract style. The surface displays a mix of grey, brown, and ochre tones with subtle mineral inclusions and a softly burnished patina. The bull is modelled with simplified anatomical features: rounded ears, a blunt snout, and sturdy limbs tucked beneath the body, with faint incised lines suggesting the contours of the head and shoulders.

The amulet’s robust, block-like form and restrained detailing are characteristic of Late Period Egyptian lapidary work. The harmonious proportions and tactile surface underscore its intended function as a protective charm, embodying the symbolic strength and fertility associated with the bull.
