Footnotes:

Ramgopal Vijayvargiya, born in Baler, Rajasthan, in 1905, was drawn to the world of art from
a tender age. His early exposure to the fundamentals of drawing came through a wandering
ascetic who ignited his artistic spark. Recognizing his passion for painting, Vijayvargiya's
father encouraged him to pursue formal education at the Maharaja School of Arts and
Crafts. Here, he had the privilege of being mentored by the renowned Bengal revivalist,
Shailendranath De.At the age of 17, Ramgopal Vijayvargiya held his inaugural solo exhibition
at the Fine Arts and Crafts Society in Kolkata. His exceptional talent led to his rapid
progression, allowing him to complete his five-year course within just eight months, gaining
him direct promotion to the final year.Subsequently, he briefly worked as a drawing teacher
but soon realized it wasn't his calling. By the time he turned 30, Ramgopal had firmly
established his name in the art realm, with nearly a thousand of his paintings already finding
homes. Many of his creations drew inspiration from the literary works of poets and writers
such as Kalidas and Omar Khayyam.Ramgopal's artistic journey, which commenced in 1929,
spanned thousands of works, and over 250 of these pieces are cherished in collections
worldwide. Notably, one of his paintings on the theme of Geet Govind was acquired by
Tsutomu Ueda's gallery in Tokyo.Beyond his visual artistry, Vijayvargiya was also a prolific
writer, having published three anthologies of poems, a collection of short stories, and six
books on art. His contributions to both the visual and literary arts continue to resonate with
enthusiasts and collectors alike.
