Description:

A finely woven Persian carpet, likely from Kashan or Isfahan, dating to the mid-20th century. The composition centers around a striking navy and olive green medallion with scrolling floral arabesques, set against a rich salmon-red field filled with finely drawn palmettes, rosettes, and flowering vinery. The ivory spandrels reflect the medallion's shape, further enhancing the formal symmetry of the design. The border is equally elaborate, with a broad floral main band flanked by classic Herati guard stripes.

This carpet recalls the work of early 20th-century Kashan master weavers such as Mohtashem, particularly in its high knot density, tightly rendered floral details, and luxurious silk-like wool. The drawing of the vines and flowers shows a refinement comparable to Isfahan carpets of the same era, especially those associated with the Seirafian workshop, though this piece lacks their characteristic signature.

Comparable Examples:

  • A Kashan carpet sold at Bonhams, London, 2021, featuring a similar medallion and field layout with saturated salmon tones and crisp floral detailing.

  • Sotheby’s New York, April 2019, Lot 142: An Isfahan carpet with near-identical spandrel configuration and navy ground medallion.
