Description:

A CALLIGRAPHIC INSCRIBED EMERALD AMULET, 19TH CENTURY, PERSIA
Qajar Iran, 19th century

Description:
A rectangular emerald amulet finely engraved with Arabic script, likely comprising Qur’anic verses or talismanic blessings. The deep green stone is polished to a smooth surface, with the calligraphy arranged in disciplined horizontal lines. The inscription is cut with precision despite the small scale, demonstrating the skill of the lapidary.

The emerald is well preserved, with a vibrant colour and minimal surface wear. A rare survival in this form, the piece would have served as a portable protective object, worn or carried discreetly for spiritual safeguarding.

Note:
In Islamic talismanic tradition, emeralds were considered to carry properties of protection, renewal, and spiritual clarity. When engraved with sacred inscriptions, they became powerful devotional objects. This rectangular form, paired with the precision of its engraving, suggests it was a cherished personal item crafted with both spiritual intent and refined artistry.
