Description:

A CHINESE BLUE AND WHITE PORCELAIN VESSEL WITH OTTOMAN SILVER MOUNTS, 18TH–19TH CENTURY
China and the Ottoman Empire, 18th–19th century

Description:
A charming small porcelain vessel of Chinese origin, produced in classic blue and white underglaze with a bulbous body and tear-shaped medallions enclosing stylised lotus blossoms. The porcelain is finely potted and exhibits the translucent glaze typical of Qing dynasty export wares. The piece has been later mounted in the Ottoman Empire with a fitted silver foot and domed lid, topped with a small finial and decorated with traditional tughra-style motifs and geometric scrolling.

The combination of Chinese porcelain with Ottoman silver fittings is emblematic of the extensive cross-cultural trade routes that flourished between East Asia and the Islamic world during the 18th and 19th centuries. These adapted pieces were highly prized in elite Ottoman households and used for storing precious substances such as rosewater, perfume, or spices.
