Description:

Lot 250. A LARGE OTTOMAN SILVER JUG, 19TH CENTURY

This monumental Ottoman silver jug from the 19th century represents the height of Ottoman metalworking artistry, combining elegant form with intricate surface decoration. The tapering cylindrical body is entirely engraved with dense interlacing arabesque motifs and geometric scrollwork, all finely executed with remarkable precision.

The hinged domed lid, topped with a gilded finial, echoes the same intricate patterning, while the boldly cast gilt-bronze handle features an elaborate openwork design with stylized foliate flourishes. The jug rests on a plain circular base, lending balance to the richly ornamented surfaces.

Such pieces were likely used for ceremonial functions or as part of elite domestic furnishings, embodying both luxury and craftsmanship. The integration of gold and silver elements highlights the opulent aesthetic sensibilities of the late Ottoman court.
