ALJAMIE FI ALTIBI, FOR SHEIKH IZZ AL-DIN IBN JAMAA, COPY WRITTEN BY DOCTOR MUHAMMAD BIN AL-MASULI, DATED 877H
Mamluk Egypt or Syria, dated 877 AH / 1472–73 AD

Description:
Arabic manuscript on cream paper, written in black naskh script with red rubrication throughout. This manuscript contains the medical compendium Aljamie fi Altibi (The Comprehensive in Medicine) authored by Sheikh Izz al-Din ibn Jamaa, a noted scholar of the Mamluk period. The copy was completed in 877 AH (1472–73 AD) by Doctor Muhammad bin al-Masuli, himself likely a practising physician, as suggested by the formal title preceding his name.

The content reflects the classical Islamic medical tradition, drawing upon Galenic and Avicennan foundations while incorporating practical knowledge relevant to contemporary medical practice. The structure of the text suggests a focus on therapeutic methods, materia medica, and physiological theory. The manuscript is complete, with marginal annotations and signs of scholarly use. Bound in later leather with blind tooling.

Measurements:
19.5 x 15 cm

Note:
Medical manuscripts from the Mamluk period are highly sought after, especially when they are both dated and attributed to named physicians. This manuscript’s clear provenance, legible script, and complete state make it a strong example of classical Islamic medical scholarship and its transmission in the late medieval Islamic world.
