Description:

Lot 4. AN IMPERIAL MUGHAL DOCUMENT OF DECCAN NAWAB NIZAM MEER AHMED ALI KHAN
Mughal, 18th Century

Composed in elegant nastaʿlīq script on a burnished paper sheet, the document is set within a rectangular panel ruled in blue, gold, and black. The text is written in fine, flowing hand, the ink varying subtly in tone due to age and surface wear. The surrounding field is decorated with a repeating gilt vegetal motif on a red ground, forming a richly ornamented border. A large circular seal impression, densely inscribed in black, appears above the text panel. The sheet shows creasing, scattered abrasions, small tears along the upper edge, and localized pigment loss commensurate with handling and age.

The reverse is plain, with a soft, worn surface in natural tan tones, showing areas of discoloration, minor stains, and small edge losses.

Mughal administrative documents of this type recorded appointments, land grants, and legal or fiscal decrees issued under the authority of high-ranking officials or regional governors such as Nawab Mir Ahmad Ali Khan, known as Nasir Jung, the second Nizam of Hyderabad. Their formal calligraphy, ruled borders, and official seals attested to their legal and political weight within the imperial bureaucracy.
