AN OTTOMAN QURAN SIGNED ISMAIL AL-ZUHDI, TURKEY AND DATED 1246 AH/1830 AD

This Ottoman Quran, attributed to the renowned calligrapher Ismail al-Zuhdi, is a splendid example of early 19th-century Turkish manuscript art. Arabic manuscript on paper, each folio with 15 lines of elegant black naskh script, gold roundel verse markers, large gilt and polychrome floral marginal 'juz' and hizb' notes, text within gold and black rules, surah headings in large white thuluth on a gold ground, opening two bifolia fully illuminated in gold and polychrome framing 7 lines in clouds reserved against a gold sprinkled ground.
The final page with a roundel enclosing the text: signed 'written by Ismail Zuhdi' and dated in Jumada II 1246 AH/1830 AD.
In gilt morocco binding with central cartouche enclosing large flower heads and surrounded by spandrels containing scrolling floral vine.
