Description:

A CHINESE LOTUS FOOTED DISH JIAQING (1796-1820) & CELADON WATER DROPPER, MING DYNASTY & LATER Comprising a Chinese lotus footed dish, Jiaqing period (1796–1820), and a celadon water dropper, Ming dynasty and later. The lotus dish is finely potted with a lobed, barbed rim and raised on a short oval foot. The exterior is decorated in vibrant cobalt blue with a trellis pattern reserved with enamelled floral roundels in pink, green and white, the underside with a six-character Jiaqing mark to the recessed base. The shaped form and dense floral ornament evoke lotus-petal and textile-derived decoration, while the palette gives the piece a lively late Qing character. The accompanying water dropper is of small compressed globular form, covered overall in a soft green celadon glaze with pronounced crackle. It has a short spout and a small loop handle, with an unglazed foot revealing the buff body. The restrained form and glaze contrast with the brightly enamelled dish, making the lot a varied grouping of Chinese scholar’s and table wares. Surface wear, glaze crazing, firing imperfections and age-related marks are visible, particularly to the celadon water dropper and the foot of the dish. Diameter of largest: 12 cm
