Description:

Lot 20. AL-IJĀZA AL-DASŪQĪYA BY MUḤAMMAD RASŪL IBN MUḤAMMAD ṬĀHIR AL-DASŪQĪ
Egypt, dated 1303–1304 A.H. / 1885–1886 A.D.

Arabic manuscript on paper, written in clear black naskh script within circular medallions outlined in red, blue, and gold, with key sections highlighted in red ink. The composition is arranged in an elaborate vertical format, beginning with a large central medallion surrounded by smaller circles containing text and stamped seals, framed by interlocking polychrome motifs in pink, green, and gold. Below, the text continues in horizontal ruled panels with alternating lines of black and red script enclosed by double red borders.

Executed on a long scroll of fine cream paper, the calligraphy is disciplined and symmetrical, enhanced by delicate ruling and vibrant colour contrasts. The surface retains traces of handling and light creasing consistent with ceremonial use.

An ijaza (licence) of transmission, this manuscript records the scholarly lineage and teaching authority of the Dasūqī Sufi order, attributed to the Egyptian scholar Muḥammad Rasūl ibn Muḥammad Ṭāhir al-Dasūqī. Such documents formalised the chain of instruction and spiritual affiliation within the Sufi hierarchy, serving both as certification and devotional testament.
