Footnotes:

Maqbool Husain is renowned for his grandiose depictions of Indian history and culture
through his artwork. Following a brief stint at the Indore Art College, Husain made his way to
Mumbai, where he sustained himself by painting cinema hoardings. In 1947, he became a
founding member of the Progressive Artists Group, and in 1968, he achieved the prestigious
Golden Bear award for his film titled "Through the Eyes of a Painter."

His artistic prowess extended worldwide, with major solo exhibitions gracing prominent
galleries in various corners of the globe, including the most recent ones at the Peabody
Essex Museum in Salem, Massachusetts, USA, and the Asia Art Gallery in London. His work
has also been prominently featured in significant international exhibitions held in cities like
Geneva, New York, Washington D.C., Oxford, and notably, at the Tate Gallery in London in
1982. In a testament to his international acclaim, his artwork was displayed alongside
masterpieces by Picasso at the Sao Paulo Biennial in 1971.
Maqbool Husain's oeuvre remains truly exceptional and singular in its nature.
