Description:

AN ASSORTMENT OF KASHMIRI TEXTILES, 19TH CENTURY
Kashmir, India, 19th century

Description:
A group of five finely worked Kashmiri textiles, comprising: two small embroidered purses with metallic thread trim, a striped kani-style woven panel, a floral field fragment with boteh motifs, and an intricate repeat-lattice composition rendered in polychrome wool on a cream ground. Each piece reflects traditional Kashmiri textile artistry, including the famed sozni (needlework) and kani (loom-woven) techniques. Rich reds, deep indigo, and ivory dominate the palette, with subtle vegetal dyes and a variety of traditional boteh, floral, and vine motifs. The group shows some wear and minor losses consistent with age.
