Arabic manuscript on paper; a compendium of pharmacological and medical treatises, including Minhaj al-Dukkan and Dustur al-Umtan, attributed to prominent practitioners in the Islamic medical tradition. Written in a clear North African maghribi-style naskh in black and red ink. Red rubrication is used extensively for headings and key entries, enhancing readability. Comparable examples:

  • A manuscript of Minhaj al-Dukkan by al-Antaki, North Africa, late 19th century, sold at Sotheby’s, London, 24 October 2017, Lot 52, for £6,250.

  • An Ottoman medical compendium featuring similar materia medica content sold at Bonhams, Islamic and Indian Art, 11 June 2018, Lot 59, for £5,625.

  • A 19th-century North African pharmacological manuscript sold at Christie’s, London, 28 April 2022, Lot 77, for £6,000.

Note:
The Minhaj al-Dukkan is a foundational text in Islamic pharmacology, often copied and used by herbalists and apothecaries. This version, paired with additional treatises, shows the living nature of medical tradition in North Africa well into the early 20th century. The practical marginal annotations and structured formatting suggest the manuscript was actively used in a professional or academic context. The date 1324 AH (1906 CE) is recorded clearly on the colophon.
